Our Emergency Management Plan is here to keep Tallcree families and communities safe. It guides us before, during, and after emergencies, such as wildfires, floods, extreme weather, power outages, and health events. It also helps us reduce risks by clearing brush, maintaining fire breaks, and working on FireSmart projects around our homes and community buildings.
In Tallcree, the biggest risks we face are wildfires in the warmer months and severe cold or power outages in the winter. To prepare, we maintain fire breaks, clear away dry brush, and monitor updates from Alberta Wildfire and the Alberta Emergency Management Agency. When wildfires are nearby, we receive daily updates from the High Level Forest Area office.
Every family can play a role in being ready. Keeping a 72-hour emergency kit with food, water, clothing, and essential supplies will help you stay prepared in the first few days of an emergency. Make sure you know where to find updates and follow the directions provided by our Emergency Team. We will also be offering community workshops and information sessions to share tips and tools that help us all stay prepared.
If an emergency affects one of our communities, we will share updates through the Tallcree website, our Facebook page, and notices delivered directly to homes. Our Emergency Team will coordinate the response and provide clear instructions on evacuation, registration, and accessing housing, food, and other essential supports.
Everyone is asked to register during an evacuation. This ensures we can provide help fairly and quickly to every family. If you or a loved one requires medical or mobility support, please provide your emergency contact information to the health centre in advance so we can assist you when needed.
After an emergency, our support will depend on the situation. We may provide mental wellness services, help with repairing damaged homes, and offer guidance on accessing housing, food, and essential items. Please note that personal property, such as vehicles, boats, and recreational equipment, remains the responsibility of the resident.
Staying connected is one of the best ways we can keep each other safe. Please make sure your emergency contact information is up to date with the health centre. Questions about our emergency plans can be directed to the Band Office. Health-related needs can be addressed through the health centre, and school-specific concerns can be raised with the school principal.
We also encourage families to use tools like Alberta Emergency Preparedness, Alberta Wildfire, and 511 Alberta. Helpful apps are also available through the Alberta Emergency Management Agency.
